In The Game Announces A Dramatic Twist For Their Toronto Fall Expo Redemption Program!

fall expo (Toronto, ON; November 1, 2002): In the Game, Inc., the manufacturers of Be A Player and Parkhurst brands of hockey cards, has earned a reputation for its widely successful redemption card programs offered at dozens of major sports card shows across North America over the past four years.

However, everything previously offered will pale in comparison to what is in store for collectors at the upcoming Toronto Fall Expo taking place at the International Centre on November 15-17. For the first time ever, collectors at the show will have an opportunity to receive a special one-of-one game-worn memorabilia card! These will be in addition to the usual array of specially-stamped cards sequentially numbered to 10, as well as other one-of-ones.

"I've seen how popular our redemption program is at every show we attend," said In the Game President Dr. Brian H. Price. "It always accomplishes a great deal for everyone involved but I have to admit the response we get at the Toronto shows is just unbelievable. That's why the upcoming Expo is the perfect show to introduce this new element in our program. I'm confident this will stimulate even greater participation and I can't think of a more deserving audience for these new one-of-ones than those in our home city."

As usual, collectors can participate by purchasing a variety of different sealed Be A Player and Parkhurst hockey card packs and boxes at the show. They must open them at In the Game's booth where they will receive these unique cards in exchange for their wrappers.

Collectors in Toronto will be eligible to receive a one-of-one game-worn memorabilia card by opening three factory-sealed boxes of the 2002-03 First Edition product. All three boxes must be opened at the same time, and all wrappers must be given to In the Game personnel. These wrappers will not be eligible for any other redemption cards. After finishing the third box, collectors are eligible to draw a number from a box. Each number will correspond to a specific one-of-one memorabilia card and that is the card they will receive!

There will be a total of 210 different one-of-one memorabilia cards available throughout the three days of the show and all will originate from inserts found in the 2002-03 First Edition set. The list of cards includes: 160 Jersey cards; 20 NHL Debut cards; 20 Team Scoring Leader cards; and 10 Magnificent Insert cards featuring Mario Lemieux. All the biggest stars in the NHL today will be included within the group of 210 cards!

The following is a summary of which packs and boxes of Be A Player and Parkhurst cards are eligible for the National Redemption Program along with how many redemption cards will be issued for each:

2002-03 First Edition Hobby version - 1 card per wrapper
2002-03 First Edition Retail version - 1 card per two wrappers
2001-02 Ultimate Memorabilia 2nd Edition - 10 cards per pack
2001-02 Memorabilia Series - one card per wrapper
2001-02 Parkhurst - one card per wrapper
2001-02 Between the Pipes - one card per wrapper
2001-02 Signature Series - three cards per two wrappers
2001-02 Update Series - one card per wrapper

Be A Player products released before 2001-02 will NOT be eligible for this promotion.

As for the traditional portion of the redemption program, collectors will receive different cards each day of the show. These redemption cards are distinguished by special foil stamping commemorating the Fall Expo and are sequentially numbered to 10. Some one-of-ones will be randomly mixed in.

On Friday, November 15, the redemption cards will be from the 345-card base set in the 2001-02 Be A Player Update Series. This set is comprised of 200 cards from the Memorabilia Series, 100 cards from Parkhurst, 25 cards from the Signature Series and 20 cards from Between the Pipes. Adding to the excitement will be the inclusion of "The Mask" insert cards within Friday's redemption program. There are 40 different cards in that set and each will be sequentially numbered to 10. Collectors will also receive unique one-of-one Emerald versions of the 200 cards in the Memorabilia Series.

Collectors will get a chance to preview the 2002-03 Memorabilia Series on Saturday, November 16. The 300-card base set will be sequentially numbered to 10. Mixed in will be special one-of-one versions of all three parallel sets including Ruby, Sapphire, and Emerald. The 2002-03 Memorabilia Series is formally scheduled for release in late November, 2002.

Sunday's redemption program focuses on the 2002-03 First Edition set. All 425 cards from the base set will be available. In addition, the 25 First Round Draft Pick cards that are unique to the Retail version of the base set will be included as well. All of these cards will be sequentially numbered to 10.

In response to the overwhelming demand for In the Game's redemption program at the Spring Expo in Toronto last May, the company has introduced some new procedural policies designed to benefit all those who wish to participate. Collectors will be asked to "take a number" when they initially approach the booth. They may only open their packs and boxes once their number is called. Also, collectors will be permitted to open a maximum of three boxes at any one time before having to take another number. These new policies are a direct result of input solicited from hobbyists through In the Game's website at www.baptradingcards.com after the Spring Expo.

"Yes, our redemption program at the Spring Expo was wildly successful," said Price, "more successful then I could have possibly imagined. However, there were a few drawbacks and I noticed that some collectors were not happy because they were unable to participate. This was unacceptable to me and that's why we've decided to modify the way we distribute the cards. The process is now more equitable than ever."

In the Game, Inc. has produced the Be A Player brands of hockey trading cards since 1998-99. The company has a number of hockey card products slated for release in 2002-03 including First Edition (released August 21); the Memorabilia Series (scheduled for release in late November), Parkhurst (scheduled for December release), Between the Pipes (scheduled for January release), Signature Series (scheduled for April release), and Ultimate Memorabilia 3rd Edition (scheduled for May release).
