In The Game Reveals Print Runs For All Parkhurst Inserts(Toronto, ON; December , 2001); In the Game, Inc., the manufacturer of the Be A Player brands of hockey cards, has announced the print runs for all the game-worn memorabilia inserts available in the brand. While hobbysists have been aware for some time that all of these cards have been produced in quantities of 100 or less, some of the exact numbers were not initially made public. One number that immediately jumps out is five. Five is the print run for a number of cards in the 30-card Vintage Memorabilia insert set. These cards are absolutely striking. Be A Player has reprinted a number of the most popular Parkhurst cards from the original 1950s and 1960s sets and incorporated a piece of game-worn memorabilia from each player. Initial information indicated the print runs for these cards ranged from five to 90. Now the specific runs for each card have been divulged. There are 12 cards with a print run of a mere five, ensuring they are some of the most collectible cards in the hobby. The list includes: #PV-2 Rocket Richard (number); PV-3 Rocket Richard (emblem); PV-6 Jacques Plante (emblem); PV-7 Jacques Plante (number); PV-11 Doug Harvey (emblem); PV-12 Doug Harvey (number); PV-14 Mr. Hockey (emblem); PV-15 Mr. Hockey (number); PV-18 Jean Beliveau (number); PV-19 Jean Beliveau (emblem); PV-23 Henri Richard (emblem); PV-29 Ted Lindsay (emblem). Card number PV-13 of Mr. Hockey (jersey) has a print run of 40. All other cards in the set have a stated print run of 90. There are two other insert sets in which the exact numbers of print runs for all cards have been disclosed. The 500-Goal Scorer set of 26 cards originally stated a range of 30-80 cards. There are actually 11 cards in the set with a print run of 30 including: PGS-1 Bobby Hull; PGS-2 Mr. Hockey; PGS-3 Marcel Dionne; PGS-4 Phil Esposito; PGS-6 Mark Messier; PGS-7 Steve Yzerman; PGS-8 Brett Hull; PGS-9 Mario Lemieux; PGS-12 Luc Robitaille; PGS-13 Mike Bossy; and PGS-15 Guy Lafleur. All other cards in this series have a print run of 80. The range on the 40-card Parkhurst Autographed Series was originally disclosed as 20 to 90. Six players have signed just 20 cards. They are: PA-1 Frank Mahovlich; PA-4 Frank Mahovlich; PA-9 Woody Dumart; PA-12 Mr. Hockey; PA-26 Mr. Hockey; and PA-36 Mr. Hockey. Ten players have signed 60 cards including: PA-3 Jean Beliveau; PA-6 Jean Beliveau; PA-13 Phil Esposito; PA-14 Bernie Geoffrion; PA-20 Gilbert Perreault; PA-27 Jean Beliveau; PA-28 Guy Lafleur; PA-31 Marcel Dionne; PA-35 Stan Mikita; and PA-37 Tony Esposito. Five other players signed 80 cards including PA-19 Lanny McDonald; PA-22 Dale Hawerchuk; PA-23 Mike Gartner; PA-29 Mike Bossy; and PA-32 Jari Kurri. All other players have signed 90 cards. "Divulging all the numbers drives home the point on how scarce and collectible these game-worn memorabilia inserts truly are," said Dr. Brian H. Price, President of In the Game. "I'm especially excited about the Vintage Parkhurst cards printed out of five. Anybody who pulls one of these is holding something I would consider extra special. And because each piece of emblem and number is unique in terms of colours and patterns, these are as unique as any one-of-one card in the market."
The print runs for the other game-worn memorabilia inserts had already been
disclosed on the website at www.baptradingcards.com. The list is as follows: The Parkhurst Series was released on December 5, 2001 and marks the 50th anniversary of the 1951-52 Parkhurst set, the first mainstream set of hockey cards issued in the modern era. The 2001-02 Parkhurst issue is comprised of a 300-card base set printed on foilboard. Fifty cards in the set feature short-printed rookies. Other features include a 150-card series of Parkie Reprints (and the Parkie Back Check contest - see the website for details), Silver and Gold parallel versions of the first 100 cards in the set, and the popular He Shoots, He Scores points redemption program. Each pack of 2001-02 Parkhurst holds five cards plus one decoy or memorabilia card. There are 24 packs per box. Parkhurst will be issued on December 5, 2001.
