Now Everyone Can Hoist The Stanley Cup Thanks To In The Game!

Stanley Cups (Toronto; July 25, 2002): In the Game, Inc., the manufacturer of both the Be A Player and Parkhurst brands of trading cards, wants to give all hockey fans an opportunity to feel the elation of raising professional sports' most recognizable trophy the Stanley Cup.

That opportunity will arrive in November with the release of the 2002-03 Memorabilia Series. In addition to the expected allotment of packs containing attractive base cards and a striking insert lineup, collectors will also find one Stanley Cup in each hobby box.

These impressive replicas measure approximately six inches in height and feature one prominent player from every Stanley Cup-winning franchise since 1963. There will be 40 different Cups to collect.

"Every sport has its 'holy grail', so to speak but nothing symbolizes this more dramatically than the Stanley Cup in hockey," said In the Game President Dr. Brian H. Price. "I don't think any other trophy captures the attention of both the players and the fans the way the Cup does. I know collectors will feel the same way."

From Johnny Bower with the 1963 Toronto Maple Leafs to Dominik Hasek on the 2002 Detroit Red Wings, each Stanley Cup will instantly evoke memories and inspire conversation among fans. Who can forget Terry Sawchuk's remarkable performance in goal while leading the Leafs to their last championship in 1967? What about Phil Esposito's record-breaking scoring exploits in 1970 as Boston won its first Cup in 29 years, or Patrick Roy winning his first championship with Montreal in 1986? Mario Lemieux was unstoppable and unforgettable as Pittsburgh won its first-ever Cup in 1991.

"These are some of the greatest memories in NHL history," said Price, "and these Stanley Cups will inspire collectors to reminisce about their favorite moments. They are an excellent addition for a brand that bears the 'Memorabilia' name. When combined with our lineup of game-worn memorabilia cards already available in the packs, this will be our best Memorabilia Series ever."

The Memorabilia Series will consist of a 300-card base set and a number of game-worn memorabilia inserts, many of which will incorporate pieces of All-Star jerseys. The brand also marks the return of the popular Draft Redemption Program focusing on 2002 first-round draft choices who break into the NHL ranks. The scheduled release for 2002-2003 Memorabilia is November 2002.
