Collectors Will Give The Nod To Be A Player's New All-Star Edition

(Toronto, ON; January 2, 2003): In the Game, Inc., the manufacturers of Be A Player and Parkhurst brands of hockey cards, is proud to introduce a new brand of hockey cards dedicated to one of the NHL's most popular and prestigious annual events, the All-Star Game. Announcing the 2002-03 Be A Player All-Star Edition!

One element of the All-Star Edition that will attract plenty of attention is the inclusion of one hockey bobblehead in each box. There will be 10 different bobbleheads, and in a hobby first, each will depict the player in his All-Star uniform. These bobbleheads were manufactured exclusively for In The Game, Inc. by Forever Collectibles. They are attractive, colorful, and just plain fun!

"We like the bobblehead concept because quite simply, they continue to be very popular with collectors," says In the Game President Dr. Brian H. Price. "Attendance at sporting events where bobbleheads are given away as a promotion continues to be much stronger than other games. And wait until you see our bobbleheads! I like them because they capture the player's likeness, and also because they feature dynamic poses on an attractive stand. Compare our bobbleheads to the other ones on the market and I think they really stand out."

The bobblehead checklist is as follows: Mario Lemieux; José Théodore; Martin Brodeur; Curtis Joseph; Joe Sakic; Jaromir Jagr; Steve Yzerman; Patrick Roy; Peter Forsberg; and Pavel Bure.

The All-Star Edition is the first-ever card set dedicated to celebrating the annual mid-season spectacle otherwise known as the NHL All-Star Game. It incorporates a 150-card base set including 100 prominent NHL stars in their All-Star uniforms. Some of the stars have two cards in the set and a handful even have three. These cards feature a colorful design and plenty of All-Star Game facts and trivia on the backs.

The remaining 50 cards in the base set are part of a "Future All-Star" subset. This subset primarily features rookie cards printed on stock using Dufex technology. These are bound to be one of the sharpest looking rookie cards of the year, and they will have an extremely limited print run ensuring collectibility and value. Each of the 50 cards will be sequentially numbered to a mere 100. There will also be a Silver parallel version numbered to 20, and a Gold one-of-one parallel.

And let's not forget a terrific lineup of memorabilia cards. The All-Star Edition offers a 100-card series of jersey cards. Not just any jersey cards, mind you, but cards with pieces of Game-Used All-Star Jerseys! The caliber of players found in this set is unbeatable and includes the likes of Mario Lemieux, Patrick Roy, Steve Yzerman, and Joe Thornton. To top things off, collectors will also find scarce Silver and Gold parallel versions of this set. One memorabilia cards will be found in every box. Remember, you won't find All-Star memorabilia cards anywhere except in a product issued by In the Game.

As is the norm at In the Game, each pack of the All-Star Edition will contain a He Shoots, He Scores decoy/redemption points card or a memorabilia card. The decoy cards are designed to prevent pack searching. Collect enough points and you can redeem them for a rare double-jersey card numbered to 20. That's right, each of these gems will feature two pieces of All-Star Game-worn jerseys instead of the traditional single piece.

"We're excited about the All-Star Edition," says Price, "because it is built around a memorable concept that remains tried and true. The fact fans and collectors are routinely drawn towards the game's most popular players is a given. There's a good reason why the All-Star Game continues to be a popular event after more than 50 years so there is a good reason to build a product around it. Add in the bobbleheads, sharp-looking and extremely limited rookie cards, one All-Star memorabilia card in every box, and now the double-memorabilia He Shoots, He Scores redemption cards, and I can safely say we've created an All-Star product."

The 2002-03 Be A Player All-Star Edition will release on January 16. Each box will hold 20 packs of cards and one All-Star bobblehead doll. Each pack of cards will contain three cards plus one decoy or memorabilia card.

In the Game, Inc. has produced the Be A Player brands of hockey trading cards since 1998-99. The company now has 10 hockey card products slated for release in 2002-03.
