Parkhurst Hockey Hardware Redemption Program posed both challenges and rewards for collectors! The six winning cards have been identified.A series of interactive insert cards in the 2002-03 Parkhurst set presented an interesting choice for collectors! To redeem or not to redeem! For hockey fans tearing through packs of 2002-03 Parkhurst, In the Game, Inc. offered a unique redemption program in which collectors were asked to predict which NHLers would win this year's major awards. However, the Hockey Hardware inserts also induced some serious soul-searching! Hockey Hardware consisted of six unique insert sets, each containing 10 cards limited to a stated production run of 100. Each of the six sets were devoted to candidates for one of six high-profile trophies, hence the name Hockey Hardware. There was also one "wild card" for each trophy in the event that a player not in the original set won that award. Hockey Hardware inserts were not game-used memorabilia inserts. The trophies included: The Hart Trophy for NHL MVP; the Calder Trophy for Rookie of the Year; the Vezina Trophy for best goaltender; the Art Ross Trophy for the leading scorer; the Norris Trophy for best defenseman; and the Pearson Award for MVP as selected by the players. The winners of each of these trophies were announced at the 2003 NHL Awards Ceremony. They are:

The concept of the Parkhurst Hockey Hardware Program was simple enough. If a collector pulled a Hockey Hardware insert of a player they felt had a strong chance at winning the trophy pictured on the card, they were invited to fill in their contact information on the card back and send it to In The Game. If that particular player won the trophy, the card then served as a contest entry giving collectors a chance to win a unique jersey card of the player numbered to 10. The deadline to receive redemption cards was June 2, 2003. However, collectors did face a challenge. Since each of the Hockey Hardware entry inserts was limited to 100 copies of each player, they were scarce and potentially valuable in their own right. If one of these cards was submitted to In The Game, it would not be returned. In the tradition of the classic game show "Let's Make A Deal, collectors had the option of keeping their card (and giving up the chance of earning an extremely limited memorabilia card), or they could go for "door number one" and relinquish the card in exchange for a chance to earn the memorabilia card. "This is an interesting question and we know collectors can have some fun with it," said In The Game President Dr. Brian H. Price at the time of the product's release. "Our adrenaline started rushing just when we came up with the concept. We think it's a nice reward for those collectors who do their homework. "It compares to the whole concept of collecting rookie cards, and I realize there is also an element of chance, but those who are astute enough to stock up on a player who becomes a star will reap the rewards. If you focus on a player who doesn't reach his potential, it's a different story. However, it's always intriguing to make a prediction. That's an idea collectors have embraced for decades now, and it is the backbone of this program." A perfect example involved two cards from the Hart Trophy series in Hockey Hardware. Both Peter Forsberg and Markus Naslund were in the set and both were strong candidates to win the Hart. Collectors had to decide who they thought would win in order to qualify for a chance to earn the jersey card. As it turns out, Forsberg won the Hart, and 10 lucky people who submitted Forsberg cards were rewarded. However, all those who decided not to submit their Naslund Hart Trophy card have also been rewarded because they have simply decided to keep a rare card instead of relinquishing it in the entry process.
