It's All Used Up!!! In The Game-Used Sells Out A Week Before Release Date

(Toronto, ON; March 20, 2003): In the Game, Inc., the manufacturer of Be A Player and Parkhurst brands of hockey cards, is announcing a combination of good news and bad news. The good news is the company's inaugural release of In the Game-Used, the brand with one game-used memorabilia card in every pack, has formally sold out one full week before its' scheduled release date of March 26. It has already emerged as one of the hottest card sets of the year and is a testament to the success of the concept. The bad news is the company's inaugural release of In the Game-Used, the brand with one game-used memorabilia card in every pack, has formally sold out one full week before its' scheduled release date of March 26. Dealers who have not placed their orders will not be able to acquire one of the hottest card sets of the year directly from the company . "No question, I am extremely happy about the demand In the Game-Used has generated within hobby circles at such an early stage," said company President Dr. Brian H. Price. "We all know it's a difficult market out there right now. To defy that environment and sell out this quickly is very satisfying. It proves that our instincts about this concept were correct. It is also important to realize that 'less is more.' We could have made much more than 400 cases but we decided not to, and I'm glad we didn't." In addition to a memorabilia card, each pack also contains one Dufex base card and one Shimmer base card. The base set is comprised of 200 cards in total 100 Dufex cards showing players in their home uniforms and 100 Shimmer cards showing players in their road uniforms. The first 80 Dufex cards focus on veteran stars while the final 20 spots consist of rookie cards. The first 80 Shimmer cards feature those same 80 veterans, meaning there are two base cards for each star player. The final 20 spots in the Shimmer set are also devoted to rookie cards, but the checklist is different from the Dufex rookie cards. That makes for a total of 40 rookie cards in the set. The stated production totals for all the base cards is exceptionally low. The print runs for both Dufex and Shimmer veteran players will not exceed 230. Better yet, the Dufex and Shimmer rookie cards are serial-numbered to 100. "We worked very hard on In the Game-Used, from conception right through to pack-out," said Price. "Our goal was to provide dynamic cards of superior quality and to present them in a formula that appealed to collectors. We've done that. I am also grateful to our network of distributors, dealers, store owners, and ultimately collectors. They have to take the credit as well and I thank them for their loyalty and passion. They are the backbone of this hobby." In the Game-Used offers a total of 308 different memorabilia cards featuring current superstars like Mario Lemieux, Patrick Roy, Steve Yzerman, and Dany Heatley along with yesterday's legends including Maurice Richard, Terry Sawchuk, Tim Horton, and Eddie Shore. The stated production run of any memorabilia card does not exceed 100, and many are produced in substantially lower quantities. Adding to the intrigue is the fact nearly every memorabilia card will also have a special Gold parallel version numbered to 10. There is another series of 10 Magnificent Inserts devoted to Mario Lemieux. This insert concept has been utilized in several In the Game brands throughout the year, with a new design for each brand. These cards incorporate anywhere from one to four pieces of Lemieux's game-used equipment. A limited number of these are even autographed. In the Game is the exclusive provider of autographed Mario Lemieux cards in 2002-03.
Other memorabilia insert sets are: The production run for In the Game-Used has been limited to 4,000 boxes. Each pack holds three cards with five packs per box.
