AN ADDITION TO THE ORIGINAL-SIX HE SHOOTS HE SCORES PROGRAM
The additional redemption cards are almost complete! We thank you for your patience and hope to have your cards out to you no later than September 30th. In The Game, Inc., manufacturers of In The Game, Be A Player, and Parkhurst brands of hockey cards, is announcing an important addition to the He Shoots, He Scores Program for Parkhurst Original Six. The He Shoots He Scores Program has been utilized throughout most Be A Player and Parkhurst Products over the past three years. In The Game implemented the concept as a measure to prevent potential pack searching. It was discovered that individuals tried to feel the packs without opening them and find the extra-thick game-used memorabilia card randomly inserted inside. The He Shoots, He Scores Program ensured every pack without a game-used memorabilia card contained an extra-thick "decoy" card to deter the searchers. Rather than just insert a thick piece of cardboard in every pack, each decoy card has a point value and once a collector accumulates enough points, they can redeem the points cards in exchange for a very limited game-used memorabilia cards. These game-used memorabilia cards are sequentially numbered to 20 and are not available in any packs. There are 30 different cards, each featuring two players and two pieces of memorabilia. Due to the exceptional response to the Program in all six Original Six team boxes, In The Game has already issued all 600 game-used memorabilia cards to collectors. This poses a problem since the Program is not slated to conclude until December 31, 2004. "Obviously we are thrilled with the strong response to the He Shoots He Scores Program," says Dr. Brian H. Price, President of In The Game. "This marks the first time we have run out of memorabilia cards before the deadline. We needed a solution that would be fair to as many collectors as possible and I think we've done it." Among the options considered were: closing the Program before the stated deadline; producing more of the same cards but with a different numbering sequence; creating new cards featuring different players; and foil-stamping already existing cards. However, each was deemed less than ideal. The solution decided upon involves the production of 30 new cards without altering the original checklist. They will utilize different photography of the same players and extend the original 30-card checklist to 60 cards. These new cards will be numbered HSHS-31 to HSHS-60. These will also be limited to 20 copies of each card. "We were not prepared to tell collectors that we redeemed all of the cards and could not honour their redemptions," explained Price. "Extending the print run was not an option and we were not in favour of creating more cards featuring different players. This appears to be the sensible solution." Collectors will begin to receive the next 30 cards of the He Shoots, He Scores memorabilia cards as soon as the cards are produced. Below is the checklist for the 30-card extension:
