2003 Draft Redemption Program

As collectors are aware, the Draft Redemption Program started in 2002 and continues to this day. With the NHLPA and the NHL not renewing our license, we were put in a very difficult position. We had redemptions to fulfill but we were not licensed to make the redemption cards. We offered to complete this program but our offer was rejected by both the NHL and the NHLPA. In October 2005, the NHLPA and Upper Deck agreed to fulfill outstanding redemption cards for the Draft Redemption Program we started in 2001.

We recently contacted the NHLPA to get an update on the timing for sending the redemption cards to collectors; however, the NHLPA were not able to provide us with a date that these cards will be sent. As a courtesy to collectors, the NHLPA and the NHL we continued to accept these cards and sent the payments and information to the NHLPA.

Starting February 1, 2006, will no longer be able accept any additional redemption cards. We wanted to assist collectors but we thought the redemption cards would be available by this time and cannot be held responsible for the actions of others, which we have no control over.

Should collectors send cards to us, we will return the cards as we no longer can be involved in this program. By February 1st, all the redemption cards and shipping and handling fees collected to that point will be forwarded to the NHLPA. After February 1st, if you want to confirm that the NHLPA has received your redemption cards and funds, please contact them.

As collectors know, we wanted to make these cards and complete the program but we were not allowed to. With the current five-year Upper Deck exclusive license, the NHLPA and the NHL would not allow us to make the cards owed to collectors in the Draft Redemption Program which was approved by both of them.

Any questions about the program should be directed to the NHLPA at draftcards@nhlpa.com
